ACLS BLS Provider Heartsaver Other Skills

ACLS Classes

ACLS Update and BLS Provider Renewal

ACLS Update is designed for the experienced healthcare provider with prior ACLS certification. The student must be able to prove they have had prior certification in AHA ACLS. The course will cover BLS CPR/AED, advanced airway management, rhythm interpretation and mega code scenarios. Testing includes hands-on mega code scenarios and written test. Students will work as a team through each scenario. Upon successful completion of the skills testing and written examination, students will receive an AHA ACLS Provider card valid for 2 years. BLS testing is included in this session and will meet the requirements of the BLS course. Upon successful completion of the BLS practical and written exams, the student will receive an AHA BLS Provider card valid for 2 years.

Course work book is not included in the cost of this class. Students are strongly encourage to purchase a course workbook prior to the class. 2015 guidelines permit the use of the coursebook to assist with the written examination.

Students must complete the ACLS Pretest prior to the class. You will receive the link to the pretest upon registration for the class.

Class will last 5-8 hours depending on the size of the class.

ACLS Update

ACLS Provider Skills Evaluation (AHA)

Approximately a 2-hour evaluation of ACLS skills including:  Adult BLS CPR/AED use, airway management and Mega code scenarios.  Prior to the evaluation, students must have completed the “HeartCode ACLS” online cognitive portion of the course found on the American Heart Association’s website for online learning, https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-acls.html, and present their certificate of completion to the instructor.  Upon successful completion of the skills evaluation, students receive an AHA ACLS Provider certification card valid for two years.  BLS Provider certification is not included in this course, but is a prerequisite.

ACLS Provider Skills & BLS Provider Skills Evaluation (AHA)

Approximately a 2-hour evaluation of ACLS skills including and BLS Skills:  Adult BLS CPR/AED use, airway management and mega code scenarios.  Prior to the evaluation, students must have completed the “HeartCode ACLS” and “HeartCode BLS” online cognitive portions of the courses found on the American Heart Association’s website for online learning, https://shopcpr.heart.org/courses, and present their certificates of completion from each online course to the instructor.  Upon successful completion of the skills evaluation, students receive an AHA ACLS Provider certification card as well as an AHA BLS Provider certification card, both valid for two years.

ACLS Provider – Initial Certification Course (AHA)

Advanced Cardiac Life Support- 16 hour (2 day) AHA provider course. This class will cover all topics and skills as it pertains to ACLS to include:

  • BLS CPR and AED
  • Rhythm interpretation
  • ACLS medications
  • Team approach to resuscitation management
  • Advanced airway management
  • Mega code practice
  • Mega code skills testing
  • Written exam

Students will work as a team, rotating through various positions to gain a full understanding of the team approach to cardiac arrest resuscitation.

Course book is NOT included in the cost of this class. Students are strongly encouraged to have a current copy of the ACLS course book at class. Books can be purchased through the PRODUCTS section of the website, or purchased at class.

BLS Provider Classes

BLS Provider CPR AED (AHA) and Basic First Aid Certification (ASHI)

A comprehensive course designed to fulfill the certification needs of a wide variety of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, technicians, EMTs, CNAs, as well as those enrolled for a healthcare career. Topics include:  CPR techniques for patients age newborn through adult; AED use for patients of all ages; two rescuer CPR/AED use; rescue breathing with use of a mask, BVM system, with and without advanced airway; choking relief for all ages.  In addition, for those healthcare providers that have a requirement or need, this course includes basic first aid techniques such as: how to assess and treat injuries and medical or environmental emergencies until professional help arrives.  Skills focus on keeping the rescuer safe, while providing life-saving assistance to the patient in a variety of scenarios.  Students learn proper techniques to use when treating internal or external bleeding; dealing with anaphylactic shock; managing bone and joint injuries; burn care; recognizing symptoms of heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies and more. (Members of the general public may also take this course if there is a need other than listed as above.)  Upon successful course completion, students receive both an AHA BLS Provider certification card and an ASHI Basic First Aid certification card. Both are valid for two years.

BLS Provider CPR AED Certification (AHA)

Prior to this evaluation, students must have completed the “HeartCode BLS” online cognitive course found on the American Heart Association’s website for online learning, https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls.html, and present their certificate of completion to the instructor.  Students are given time, if requested, to practice with our equipment prior to the evaluation. Upon successful demonstration of the required skills, students will receive the appropriate course certification card, valid for two years.

Heartsaver Classes

Heartsaver CPR AED Certification (AHA)

A comprehensive course designed to teach members of the general public as well as daycare providers, coaches, teachers, and scout leaders correct CPR techniques for use on adults and children, and infants ages 0 – 12 months.  This course also covers the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator) as an important part of the CPR sequence for adults, children and infants.  Students learn how to relieve choking in a responsive or unresponsive adult, child or infant, and how to use a barrier device to deliver rescue breathing.  This course satisfies the CPR requirement for childcare providers & foster care parents in the State of Maryland. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certification card valid for two years.

Heartsaver First Aid Certification (AHA)

A comprehensive course designed to teach members of the general public,  as well as daycare providers, boat captains, coaches, teachers, scout leaders how to assess and treat injuries and medical or environmental emergencies until professional help arrives.  Skills focus on keeping the rescuer safe, while providing life-saving assistance to the patient in a variety of scenarios.  Students learn proper techniques to use when treating internal or external bleeding; dealing with anaphylactic shock; managing bone and joint injuries; burn care; recognizing symptoms of heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies and more. This course satisfies the First Aid requirement for childcare providers in the State of Maryland as well as being appropriate for boat captains, coaches, teachers, and scout leaders.  Upon successful course completion, students receive a certification card valid for two years.

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Certification (AHA)

A comprehensive combination course designed to teach members of the general public, as well as daycare providers, boat captains, coaches, teachers, scout leaders how to assess and treat injuries and medical or environmental emergencies until professional help arrives.  Skills focus on keeping the rescuer safe, while providing life-saving assistance to the patient in a variety of scenarios.  Students learn proper techniques to use when treating internal or external bleeding; dealing with anaphylactic shock; managing bone and joint injuries; burn care; recognizing symptoms of heart attack, stroke, diabetic emergencies and more. Students also learn proper CPR techniques, how and when to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) and how to relieve choking for adults, children and infants.  Use of a barrier device to prevent contamination during rescue breathing is also addressed.  This combination course satisfies the First Aid and CPR requirements for child care providers in the State of Maryland.  Upon successful course completion, students receive an American Heart Association certification card valid for two years.

Other Classes

Bloodborne Pathogens (ASHI)

Approximately a 1-hour comprehensive course designed for any student/employee who has a reasonable anticipation of contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials, as a result of performing designated job duties.   This course is particularly appropriate for healthcare workers, public safety personnel, housekeeping and custodial workers, educational and correctional workers, designated first responders and tattoo or permanent makeup artists, and meets OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) training requirements when combined with site-specific instruction.  Students learn how to protect themselves from exposure; act when exposed; clean themselves and the area; tell or report any exposure.  Upon successful completion of the course, students can receive a participation certificate.

Cost: $50.00 to add on to any CPR AED course. Please call the office to schedule.

Wilderness First Aid (ASHI)

This is an 8 – 10 hour classroom based first aid course designed for responders who would handle emergency situations outside of an urban setting, where EMS help may be 30-60 minutes away.  Emphasis is placed on the student’s ability to properly assess and treat a variety of injuries and hazards, using the contents of a prepared first aid bag and improvised materials.  Students will cover a wide range of topics including:

  • Medical Emergencies
  • Environmental Hazards
  • Wound and Burn Care
  • Bone and Joint Injuries
  • Patient History/Assessment
  • Emergency Patient Moves

(This course does not include CPR/AED training.)  There are no pre-requisites for this class.  All students receive a comprehensive student manual prior to the first day of class.  Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an ASHI (American Safety and Health Institute) Wilderness First Aid certification card valid for three years.

Fire Extinguisher Safety Training

***NOW AVAILABLE FOR GROUP CLASSES!!!***

This is a 1.5 hour course designed to show students how to properly use various types of fire extinguishers in different environments and scenarios.  Participants will also have the ability to practice utilizing a fire extinguisher in a training situation. If you would like to host this class at your facility, we simply need an open office or outdoor area to set up the training simulator. You can also host this class at our office!

BLAST BABYSITTERS CLASS (AAP – American Academy of Pediatrics)

This is 3 hour training program for potential teenage (aged 13 years and older) babysitters. The BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training) program provides training in pediatric first aid, household safety, and the fundamentals of childcare. In addition, this course helps prepare children to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable games and activities, prevent accidents, perform basic first aid and CPR, and begin babysitting safely and competently. Topics covered include: feeding, burping a baby, spoon-feeding, crying, and preparing for bed, behavioral problems, and discipline. This is a fun class with baby manikins to diaper and feed! Pocket guidebooks are included in the cost of the class and you will be awarded a certificate of completion!

Cost is $50 per child

**Please note the BLAST! course curriculum does not certify your child in CPR and first aid. If you are interested, we are now offering an extended course to include Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid certification. The extended course is 4 hours and is $125 per child.
